Phone launches now talk about AI more than cameras. Behind the marketing there are a handful of features that are genuinely useful, and a few settings worth checking before you switch them all on.
Most new Android phones and iPhones include some AI tools, and many older models get a few of them through updates. What you get depends on your model, your country and your language.
What it is good at
Photo editing is the clearest win: remove a stranger from the background, fix a blurry shot or move the subject with a tap. Summaries come next, turning long messages, web pages and recorded calls into a few lines. Writing tools can fix spelling, change the tone of a message or draft a reply.
“Treat AI answers like advice from a quick-thinking friend: useful, but worth checking.
Where to be careful
AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Double-check anything important it tells you, especially dates, prices, health or money. And remember that an edited photo may no longer show what really happened.
Some features run on the phone itself; others send your data to the cloud to be processed. Your phone’s settings usually tell you which is which.
Settings worth checking
Open Settings and search for “AI” or the assistant’s name. See which features are switched on and whether processing happens on the device or online. Turn off anything you do not use.
If you share the phone with children, review what the assistant can see in messages, photos and location. And as always, install updates: AI features improve quickly, and so do the security fixes that come with them.
